Meet the Team

James and Lori Kennedy are the founders and owners of Louisbourg Seafoods. Jim and Lori have been in the fishing industry for over 30 years. Together, they started the business in 1984. They have many contacts in the industry and have grown the business from nothing to a multi-million dollar a year company. They have that true entrepreneurial spirit and thrive on always moving forward.



Dannie Hansen has spent 32 years working in logistics, administration, federal departments, municipal councilor, community development, strategic planning and senior financial and management responsibilities. Dannie brings a forward-thinking vision to the company and his many and varied contacts are invaluable to the company.



Chuck Spearing has over 30 years of accounting experience to draw upon.  He has spent most of the last 20 years in the controller's position for multi-million dollar companies. He brings his accounting experience, a team player attitude, and multiple contacts to the company.


Adam Mugridge graduated from Dalhousie's marine biology program in 2003 and started working with Louisbourg Seafoods on development of several new emerging fisheries.  He also now works for the company as a manager doing strategic and financial planning, team building, and innovation. He has designed our company's quality campaign with the motto "From the Ocean to the Palate".

Bernard Kennedy has over 41 years of experience in the fishing industry. He started from the ground up and retired from National Sea with the position of fleet and plant manager. Bernard brings a wealth of experience, a keen sense of what will work and a strong desire to impart his expertise to those around him.  As manager of J.K. Marine Services, Bernard works well in such a fast-paced environment.



Derrick Kennedy has over 30 years experience in the fishing industry and seafood processing field.  He has been manager at Louisbourg Seafoods for over 10 years and has many years of experience in marketing and sales.  'Gouch', as he is affectionately known as, has a great deal of experience in quality control, HACCP, QMP, data collection, and quota acquisition.  A natural salesman, Derrick is willing to have a friendly conversation with anyone.

Jan Voutier has over 25 years of experience in the fishing industry. He brings a diverse background of experience in sales, marketing, product development, plant management, and procurement. Jan has worked with National Sea Products in the past and has worked in shellfish, saltfish, and groundfish throughout his career.  As manager of Ka' Le Bay Seafoods, he is kept busy scheduling vessel landings, managing staff, coordinating production, and arranging sales.



Paul Dalziel has over 25 years experience in all aspects of the fishing industry and has worked with J.K. Marine Services and Louisbourg Seafoods for about 20 years.  A licenced tradesman, Paul is considered the hardest working member of the team. Paul has a wealth of experience in many aspects including engineering and construction, equipment design and installation, vessel repair and maintenance, and management of J.K. Marine's stevedore operation.



Hordur Bjarnason, a native of Iceland, graduated from the Icelandic School of Fisheries in 1990. He worked with Rammi HF in Siglufjordur for 10 years as quality manager and plant manager. In 2001, he started with Samherji HF, the largest seafood company in Iceland, as plant manager and was also in charge of sales to Europe, Asia, and the USA. Hordur brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the shrimp industry unsurpassed anywhere.

Thomas Dahl has worked with Louisbourg Seafoods since 2006. Immigrating with his family from Germany in 2005, Thomas has a great deal of experience in many areas of the seafood industry including export sales, resource procurement, processing, and value-added production. Trained in the art of fish smoking by German smokemasters, Thomas currently manages Little Leslie Fisheries, producing our Mira Bay Smoked Seafood.



Darlene Dibbon is currently plant manager at the Louisbourg Seafoods snow crab plant in Louisbourg. Darlene has many years of experience at Louisbourg Seafoods in a supervisory role and in quality control. A resident of Louisbourg, Darlene is known for her friendly personality and her hard work and dedication. Quite often, Darlene's skill and experience in production and quality control are called upon to help out at our other sites in Glace Bay and North Sydney.




Kathy Price has been with Louisbourg Seafoods for over 15 years.  Working mainly as quality control manager at the Louisbourg Seafoods crab plant, Kathy plays a key role in ensuring production is meeting the top quality standards we strive for.  A native of Louisbourg, Kathy has been spending most of her time lately at Northsyde Processing, imparting her wisdom and skill in order to establish a top-quality shrimp product.

Brandon Johnston has only been with Louisbourg Seafoods for a little over a year now but he has quickly become a very valuable member of the team. Brandon has a background in business and accounting and this serves him well in his various roles within the company. Brandon is involved in sales and marketing, project development, transportation and logistics, and health and safety aspects. Brandon has participated in a number of trade missions with the company including Atlanta, South Carolina, Boston, and San Diego.
